G3tting It 0ff My Ch35t

After being relieved of my role back in October 2025 during an extreme period that upended the entire IT department. In which I had spent more than 6 years working as the main and only on-site IT Support Specialist. I decided to return to my journey back into coding which I had initially got my Associates degree in Programming and Analysis. It is my wish to find opportunities where I can be more creative while remaining within the realm of IT.

During my time as an IT Support Specialist, I learned a lot about the more administrative side of IT. The director I was under for the majority of my time there had trained me up to become the jack of all trades. Especially after losing our only other support specialist about a year into my time coming onboard. I learned about creating network cables and connecting various endpoint devices, such as Unifi’s WAPs, switches, security cameras, and access readers across the organization. For a time I handled setting up VoIP desk phones and creating accounts in Nextiva before we moved over to Microsoft’s Teams phones setup. I also was responsible for onboarding and off–boarding staff accounts in AD and handling their various equipment depending on their role. I also worked closely with our Network Administrator but they WFH for the majority of the time. I ended up handling a majority of the IT on-site tasks and responsibilities. This quickly made me the face of the department and I helped all levels of our company.

I had enjoyed most of my time there and came to know cool people but I was also getting burnt out. Once the director and the network admin left, I really felt overwhelmed. I had to train up an assistant director who had no prior experience in IT while still managing the department. At this point, I began my quiet quitting phase even though the manager still wanted me to oversee large upcoming projects for the department. There was also an MSP being introduced in the background. Once they started creeping in the system, I knew my time was limited. Although, the network admin and I knew they weren’t good and the MSP ended breaking printer and networking functions shortly before my departure.

Once out of the organization I took a long break as I had not taken any long vacation time off since I started. This time has allowed me to relieve the stress I had been building up. I started getting back into my creative side by drawing and slowly began the process of creating a webcomic that I would like to put out. This reset has gotten me wanting to get into web development as it gives me the opportunity to be creative while working in a different area of IT. While coding is not new to me as I had gotten a degree in it, I had not done anything in it for quite some years. I returned to my journey beginning with Neocities and freecodecamp. I have spent around a month playing around in Neocities and going through Freecodecamp’s Responsive Web Design Certification. I also began looking into various projects on Youtube as well. I recently found Coding2Go’s project about building a responsive side menu, which allowed me to create this site. I plan on continuing to tweak and refine this code to better suit my needs.
